Pat and Sari's Honeymoon Bike Ride

Saturday, March 22, 2008 - Rest Day

Today was a much-needed rest day. We stayed over in Talladega, AL and caught up on emails and finances, did our laundry, and roamed around the little town. The laundromat was 2 or 3 miles away, so we went on bike. With everything off except for one pannier of laundry, the bike felt so nice and light! After that, we cruised over to the downtown area and took some pictures of the lovely square. We tried to find some postcards, but a friendly shop lady told us there were none of the town (she had been trying to get the Chamber of Commerce to fix that problem for years). We ended up putting almost 7 miles on the bike today, but we're not going to count them. We were lucky to have a very good restaurant right next door to the motel, Diamond Lil's, and have eaten there for every single meal since we got here.

Another correction: Mr. Routh tells us that the emblem I assumed (got to stop doing that!) was the University of Alabama was really Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Thank you, sir. No one's complained about the hawk picture so I guess I'm in the clear on that one.

We took a look at next week's route and it looks like we will be going through more of the Talladega National Forest for a good while. If you remember, we started seeing that forest when we got into Alabama yesterday. Next week will also be our first time camping, so we may miss a day or two of website posting due to lack of electricity. We'll see how it goes.

Happy Easter, everyone!
