Pat and Sari's Honeymoon Bike Ride

Friday, July 25, 2008 - Rest Day in Williston, ND

As usual, our rest day didn't feel very restful. We went over our route for next week and ended up adding another day to help keep the daily mileage down. North Dakota's towns seem to be even more spread apart than Montana's. We also modified the route as our Tempe friend, Terry, suggested so the first 3 days should be scenic. We'll also be staying with Terry's mom in Hazen, ND before getting back onto the Adventure Cycling route. We thought we might be able to put in a high-mileage day after Hazen and make it all the way to Bismarck from there, but there are a lot of historic sites in that stretch and I didn't want to just fly by all of them. So we split it into 2 low-mileage days and we'll hopefully get at least a little sight-seeing in. Anyway, working out a week's route can be very difficult, tiresome, and fraught with tough decisions!

We also made a loaf-full of peanut butter & jelly sandwiches for the next few days. Out of the next 7 days, only the last one has any town with some kind of services between our starting and ending towns. So we're going to need to take more food and water with us. At least, we were able to find towns with motels (or a home!) and restaurants for each night's stay. We have no idea how many towns will have internet access so we'll update when we can. We've been pretty lucky through most of Montana, and hopefully ND will be ok, too.
